This section provides access to our living  video library. In general, we have significantly benefitted from the skill and expertise of our resident filmmaker Angus Graham.

In 1588, the body of a  sailor from La Girona was washed ashore near Ballygalley. The local people interred the body in the graveyard of Cairncastle Church of Ireland.

The sailor had a Spanish Sweet Chesnut in his pocket, and this grew into a tree which lasted for 340 years.

When Portballintrae Heritage Society delivered the Girona Memorial. Our companion organisation,  La Armada Invencible, under their captain, Pedro Luis Chinchilla, commissioned a piece of music from the world-famous composer Manuel Comasano.

On the 11th June 2022 The Ulster Orchestra came to Portballinrae and  the inaugural performance of the piece. This video gives a short memory of the day

In 1968 Robert Sténuit and his team arrived in Portballintrae to search for the treasure of La Girona.

The team recovered 122,000 items and can be seen here bringing in the ship’s anchor.
